The Gila Conservation Education Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Most of GCEC's programs are funded by small grants and run by volunteers. GCEC needs help in the following areas:
- Donations. The Gila Conservation Education Center is accepting donations. Contributions are tax deductible. Please contact GCEC for more information.
- Trunks Program. Requests by teachers for educational trunk presentations are many. At least 30 volunteers are needed each school year to meet teacher demand. Become a volunteer presenter or curriculum developer.
- Outdoor education events. Conduct a presentation in your field of expertise or help with organization and set up.
- Silva Creek Botanical Gardens. Workdays are scheduled throughout the year developing a community demonstration garden on Virginia Street in Silver City. Become a volunteer gardener and habitat rehabilitator.
- AmeriCorps. GCEC is an AmeriCorps member site, employing AmeriCorps members through The Wellness Coalition of Silver City. Find out more at wellnesscoalition.org.
- Bike Works. Volunteer with youth bike rides and bike maintenance workshops. Call (575) 534-9040 for information about this partner organization.
- Monsoon Puppet Theatre. Promote natural resource conservation with through art and giant parade puppets. Call (575) 538-5463 for information about this partner organization.
